For Pride Month, I designed a portrait-storytelling campaign for MannMukti, titled "Brown, Queer and Here" to feature LGBTQ+ identities, stories, and voices within the South Asian community. The attempt was to bring visibility to the myriad of LGBTQ+ narratives in the South Asian community - be it vulnerability, power, celebration, struggles and/or resiliency.
The "Brown, Queer and Here" campaign was an extremely successful storytelling campaign (and had one of the highest social media engagement metrics).
16 powerful testimonials
Stories from 5 different countries
Shared by 30+ organizations
Received feedback from folks from 6+ countries
Our campaign was designed as "X, Y and Z" (ex. Brown, Queer and Here)- where 'X' referred to ethnic heritage/identity within the South Asian Diaspora, 'Y' referred to the identity within the LGBTQ+ community and Z referred to the emotional state that a person currently identified with. The 'Z' is meant to highlight the mental health aspect of one's lived experiences. Whether one felt incredible, balanced, uncertain or vulnerable - we wanted to provide a space for everyone to speak the truth about their mental and emotional self.
